GENEALOGY AND LOCAL HISTORY

The mission of the SullivanMunce Cultural Center Museum and Genealogy Library is to increase the appreciation, awareness and understanding of the history and culture of Boone County and Indiana. To accomplish this mission the genealogy library works to collect, preserve and make available genealogical resources to aid those who are exploring their roots in Boone County and beyond.

Online Catalog at Evergreen

Through a partnership with Hussey Mayfield Memorial Public Library our collection can now be searched via the Evergreen Indiana Open Source Catalog.  Our complete holdings are not on-line yet, but new items are being added each week.  So be sure to check back often!

HeritageQuest Onlineat the SullivanMunce Cultural Center

Come to our genealogy library to access HeritageQuest Online.  This powerful collection of genealogy databases, available only through subscription, provides access to historical documents from 1700 – Present.

When you visit our facility you can freely access all that HeritageQuest Online has to offer.  You can download high resolution images of documents to your USB flash drive at no cost or have documents printed for $.25 per page.

Highlights of the HeritageQuest Online collection include:

  • US Federal Census Collection:Original images of every extant federal census in the United States, from 1790 through 1930, with name indexes for many decades.
  • Genealogy and local history books:  More than 7 million digitized page images from over 26,000 family histories, local histories, and other books.  Over 300 Indiana related titles can be found in this collection
  • Periodical Source Index (PERSI):  Published by the Allen County Public Library and recognized as the most comprehensive index of genealogy and local history periodicals. It contains more than 2 million records covering titles published around the world since 1800.  PERSI is updated annually. 
  • Revolutionary War records:  Original images from pension and bounty land warrant application files help to identify more than 80,000 American Army, Navy, and Marine officers and enlisted men from the Revolutionary War era. 
  • Freedman’s Bank records:  More than 480,000 names of bank applicants, their dependents, and heirs from 1865–1874, offers valuable data that can provide important clues to tracing African American ancestors prior to and immediately after the Civil War.

Genealogy Library Research Policies and Fees:

Reference assistance is available at the SullivanMunce Cultural Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you are planning on visiting the SullivanMunce Cultural Center genealogy library and would like reference assistance, we suggest that you call ahead to make an appointment, as library staff hours may vary.

Patrons who visit the genealogy library in person, can make photocopies for $.25 per page and microfilm copies for $.50 per page.

Due to their fragile nature, we may be unable to photocopy or scan some of the items in our collection. This will allow us to preserve these fragile items to the best of our ability for researchers in the future.

Obituary Searches:

Microfilm copies of Zionsville and Lebanon newspapers can be searched for obituaries.

If the exact date of death is provided, we charge $1.00 per search, plus photocopy fees (see below). If the exact date of death is not known, the request will be considered a research request and research fees will apply (see below).

We ask that you limit your obituary requests to 10 per month.

Photocopies:
1-10 copies   $5.00
11-20 copies    $10.00
21-30 copies   $15.00
$5.00 for each additional 10 copies

Research Fees:

For requests requiring extensive research, which we define as research that requires searching multiple sources and/or requires more than 15 minutes to complete, there is a $20.00 fee (plus any copy charges). Research time will be limited to one hour.

For all fees, you will be invoiced for the amount owed once the research is complete.
