Class fees are listed for member/non-member. SPRING BREAK CAMP 2008THE MAGIC OF COLOR! March 31 - April 4Children will discover the magic of color while experimenting with prisms, color wheels, and flashlights! They will make and mix their own paint, create sculpture from found objects, and make ceramic vessels from clay while learning about color! Snacks are provide; students need to bring a sack lunch with drink.
SUMMER ART CAMPSIT'S A MYSTERY TO ME July 7-11 How does an artist come up with ideas? Young artists will learn to keep a journal/sketchbook to record ideas and make observations of the world around them. Paintings, drawings, and sculpture will be created from their own observations, memories, and imaginations! We will study other artists and learn how they came up with their ideas and techniques! Drama instruction will be a part of your child’s day. Children will perform a play on Friday at 5pm for their families.
July 14-18 Re-invent the wheel! Children will learn to use problem solving skills by creating habitats for other living, (or imagined) creatures, drawing subjects bigger or larger than life, and discovering new uses for old materials. We will study other artists who were inventors as well! Drama instruction will be a part of your child’s day. Children will perform a play on Friday at 5pm for their families.

CeramicsIntroduction to Studio Art Ceramics April 9- May 28 (8 weeks) Designed for those who have never worked with clay, this class features the basics of hand-building, wheel throwing, and glazing. With an emphasis on becoming familiar with material and methods, students will be free to explore the various techniques of ceramic work in a relaxed manner. Instructor: Soyong Kang-Partington Wednesdays 1-3pm Cost: $220/$235 Lab Fee: $50 Advanced Wheel Throwing April 9- May 28 (8 weeks) Building on the skills of those with experience in ceramics, students will concentrate on different projects each week to develop their individual interests and talent. Further exploration into more advanced techniques of ceramics will include throwing large-scale pieces. Instructor: Soyong Kang-Partington Wednesdays 6:30 – 8:30 pm Cost: $220/$235 Lab Fee: $50 Hand-building clay for All Skill Levels April 9- May 23 (8 weeks) This class is for those who are interested in hand-buildings only. The students will be introduced to simple method as pinch pots, coil pots, and slabs. This is not only for beginners but also for those who have experience with clay. Students will take home one of a kind hand made tiles, cups, plates, serving platters, salad bowls and vases in just 8 weeks. Instructor: Soyong Kang-Partington Thursdays 1 – 3 pm Cost: $220/$235 Lab Fee: $50 Ceramics/Youth ClassesWheel for Youth (7-11 yrs.) April 9- May 28 (8 weeks) Pots and plates, oh, my! This class is for the students who would like to explore into the clay world. The class is designed for the students to make pots and plates by hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques. No previous experience is necessary. Tools and clay is included in class fee. Instructor: Soyong Kang-Partington Wednesdays, 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm Cost: $170/$185 Lab Fee: $35 Wheels for Teens (12-18 Yrs) April 10- May 29 (8 weeks) This class is designed specifically for the teens. Basic techniques of hand-building and wheel- throwing, as well as different glazing techniques will be learned through the class. It is the fundamental of ceramics and no previous experience is necessary. Tools and clay are included in class fee. Instructor: Soyong Kang-Partington Thursdays, 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm Cost: $170/$185 Lab Fee: $35 DrawingDrawing for all skill levels April 9- May 14 (6 weeks) Have you always wanted to draw? Or maybe you just haven’t sketched in years and want to re-hone your skills? Or are you an accomplished artist looking for invaluable studio and critique time with others? Here’s your chance to immerse yourself with graphite and charcoal in hand as you receive individualized instruction while learning from the discoveries of others. This class will also act as a continuation of the Fall 2007 drawing class. Instructor: Cynthia Young Wednesdays 6-8pm Cost: $140/155- supplies additional Painting for TeensPainting for Teens (11-15 Yrs) March 31-May 19 (8 weeks) We will experiment with acrylic painting techniques, including: impasto, glazes, watercolor effects, palette knife, mixing colors, etc. while producing finished paintings.
