Emma and Addison’s World:
Their Childhood Stories of 19th Century Zionsville

Ogborn Gallery
Since the fall of 2006, the main gallery of the SullivanMunce was transformed into several vignettes featuring the town of Zionsville from the mid- to late-1800’s, as seen through the eyes of Emma Higgins and her little brother, Addison. Included in this exhibit will be
floor-to-ceiling photo vignettes depicting four areas around which the Higgins’ childhood revolved: their home, their school, the railroad depot, and the businesses along Zionsville’s main street. Made possible through the generosity of our title sponsor, the Sullivan Museum Guild, as well as other corporate and individual funding sources, this exhibit provides a backdrop for several years of educational programming and special events. It’s an exhibit about families ... for families ... which is why we hope you and your family will join us for the grand opening of this exciting new initiative—held during Zionsville’s annual Fall Festival celebration—and that you’ll continue to journey back in time to Emma and Addison’s World throughout the duration of this exhibit.
NOW THROUGH SUMMER 2009

Life Canvas Journal Project

The goal of the Life Canvas Journal Project is to provide interaction and shared creativity among friends and strangers.

The art center will randomly hand out 60 blank journals at the opening reception of Life Canvas: the Words of Art and History. The recipients will be instructed to write, draw, paint, write a quote or a story, make a collage or insert a photo and then pass it on. It is our intent that the journals will travel far and wide as they meet the hands of countless people. The art center will also place 40 journals in places such as: schools, libraries, coffee shops, art galleries, and other places of business. These journals will stay in the establishment they were placed in to encourage visitors to participate.

The journals will contain information on our project and instructions on how to return the journal when it is complete. The returned journals will be a part of our Life Canvas: The Words of Art and History exhibit in 2010.

Guest Artist and Juried exhibition

"We value live music and theater partly because we don't know what will happen next! Our lives are themselves rather like that of a painting. We live in moments, a series of acts building gradually into the person we are now becoming."
